We have all stood at attention while our National Anthem has been played at one time in our schools, sports events and many political rallies and conventions, at funerals of dignitaries of our great country.
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
We must never let the chains that once bound those who came before us bind us and weaken our spirits. Regardless how they try to change the sentiment that we hold dear regarding our flag; tattered and worn like those long ago, we will rally to keep her standing tall flying over the ramparts and the red glare…I too, will die on my feet fighting before I will live on my knees…Like those who fell that eve, our sense of patriotism and love of our flag will once again call us to stand tall with American Pride and hold our flag up to show that we are still there, “O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave”
We can’t all be Washingtons, but we can all be patriots. ~Charles F. Browne
